What you need to know about Botox before starting?
Botox is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria.
Although Botox is derived from a bacteria, it is able to be used for the
treatments described previously because it is applied in extremely small amounts and
when applied properly does not spread throughout the body.
A tiny amount of Botox is injected into the muscle that creates the dynamic
wrinkle. When injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse
from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle relaxes. As the muscle relaxes,
the dynamic wrinkle overlying the muscle is smoothed away.
The most common areas for the use of Botox are the frown lines between the eyebrows
and on the forehead.
It can be used around eyes, to lift eyebrows corners, to smooth out neck wrinkles, for
gummy smile etc.
Botox does not "freeze" the face. It only relaxes the overactive muscle underneath the dynamic wrinkle. The other elements of facial expression remain active.
